The Biography

The Members:

Chris Padgett: Chris is 29 years of age. He is married and has four kids. Chris started writing songs at a young age. His unique background and hunger for literature has produced in Chris a burning desire to fully express his love for Christ through the medium of song writing. Chris founded Scarecrow and Tinmen in 1994. Chris plays the keyboards, and is also the lead vocalist for the band.

Bradley DeRosia: Brad is 26 and married and has two dogs. Having an uncontrollable passion for musical manuals, Brad has received the irrevocable title of a dreaded "gear-head". Brad and Chris are the 2 founding members of Scarecrow and Tinmen; they are also the only 2 original members of the band. He is the bands engineer and producer and he also plays the electric guitar.

Reid Stiens: Reid took over the drum duties after former drummer, Ryan, left the band.

Taylor: Taylor is the newest member of the band. He plays bass guitar. He joined the band in Spring 2000, shortly after bassist Matt Erikson left to join The Elms.

The Band:

In 1994, lead singer/keyboardist Chris Padgett founded what would become Scarecrow and Tinmen. Eventually, Bradley DeRosia joined the band as lead guitarist, and acoustic guitarist Ryan Gingerich and drummer Darren Yoder came on board. By 1996, after a lot of prayer, the band decided that God was calling them to pursue music ministry as a full time venture. Since going full-time, the band has been extremely busy, playing an average of 150 dates a year and releasing two independent albums.

"The goals that we started talking about four years ago have developed into long term goals," Chris continues. "Brad has a big desire to really revolutionize the Christian market, to plant a seed of sincerity and keep things focused on Christ. I have that desire too, but I also want to use this platform in a global way to deliver a positive message to youth and promote the reality of who Christ is."

The Name:

Explaining the meaning behind the name of the band, Chris says, "We wanted something that people would be intrigued by, but would exemplify our music, which has a dominant Christian intent, from evangelism to encouraging the body of Christ. In "The Wizard of Oz," the Scarecrow needed a brain and the Tinman needed a heart. As Christians, we are given a new heart and a new mind. We thought that pretty much encapsulated what we're about."
